Coach Tapati

Maharlika Vocal Arts is a lifework which is constantly unfolding and becoming with me as a head coach, a world music artist, and an imaginal.

Join me in realizing the vision of Maharlika Vocal Arts: to further cultivate artists taking pride in their roots through promoting neo-ethnic and local music alongside mainstream genres.

I have been professionally performing since 1999 and training voice students since 2000. My students include Filipinos, Asians, Americans, and Europeans; coaching them in areas ranging from leisure singing, ESL learning, musicality improvement in both local and international vocal competitions, professional singing, and public speaking. Teachers and evangelical missionaries also approach me either to improve their vocal capacity, to learn techniques for voice care maintenance, or to activate their voices for holistic self-healing/music therapy.

My genre and music style focuses on: Contemporary singing, Pop, Rock, Reggae, Blues, Folk, Ballad, Gospel, Broadway, Standards, Classic music, and my personal favorite- World Music.

I took private studies on Open Throat Technique, McClosky Technique, and Complete Vocal Technique. I have also taken short courses in Berklee Online and passed as a test singer (singers who work with senior CVT officially enrolled students in demonstrating applied CVT on singing performances) in the prestigious Complete Vocal Institute (Copenhagen Denmark).

With over 2 decades of journey in music and counting, I have developed my own vocal cross-training program after teaching various clients for almost 2 decades starting from kids aged 3 years old to seniors 60 years and above. I have also assisted in the voice rehabilitation and voice care of famous mainstream rockstars in the Philippines. All in all, the direction of my vocal coaching is geared towards singing ergonomics, establishing a “Brand Voice”, producing genuinely moving stage performances, and enhancing a student’s overall marketing value.

Aside, I’m currently a member of Philippine Society for Music Education and International Society for Music Education.

Further exploration of Maharlikan Vocal Arts during the past 3 years especially during the pandemic took me to facilitate sessions and workshops on vocal activation as a sound therapy through various online Healing Festivals- as an application of American Music Therapy Association’s course on Disaster Response for Music Therapists.

Catch me whenever I have vacant time both online and face to face, individual or group workshops and intensive voice camps!

Coach Gab

Gab is a powerhouse on her own, you could imagine her coloraturas (with her powerful but heavenly soprano voice) ringing an entire opera house!

She is well-versed in the craft, having coached lead actors on musicals such as “Jesus Christ Superstar “, “Dalagang Bukid”, and “Les Miserables School Edition” by various organizations. Her love of music goes beyond Broadway, as she also specializes in teaching Classical and Contemporary/Pop music.

Coach Kevin is a passionate performer, learner, and teacher.

He has performed in various venues both local and abroad through his groups UP Kontra-GaPi and Anima Tierra. He has also provided workshops to several institutions such as FEU Dance Company, Assumption Antipolo, and Mandaluyong CWD Drum and Lyre Band.

His love of learning can be glimpsed through his collection of various musical instruments from all over the world, books on diverse topics, and several tools for assorted crafts. He also makes various bamboo instruments such as the Tongatong, Patanggok, Patatag, Bungkaka and Saggeypo.

Being the leader of the neo-ethnic suite team, Kevin emphasizes passion and enjoyment and fosters a casual and fun atmosphere in class. Alongside those, he underscores creativity in the learning process and encourages students to explore and find their identity in their art. By interweaving snippets of cultural knowledge with lessons, he is able to provide students with a glimpse of the performances within their own cultures. He believes that everyone can be a performer, hence, he patiently instructs every student to proficiency.

Group lessons under Coach Kevin’s mentorship are aligned with DepEd’s Calendar of Activities and backed by a cultural expert, the first of its kind to be offered online. Being exposed to different tribes in the Philippines and their music, his methods are guaranteed to produce melodies as close to our local tribes as can be.
